Singapore infocomm Technology Federation (SiTF) partners with Proxor - Authentic Examinationsᵀᴹ as a vital part of its ‘capability development initiative’ to improve talent acquisition in the software development industry in Singapore.
Together, SiTF & Proxor will reach out to the Institutes of Higher Learning (IHL) to assess software development skills of their graduate infocomm students to ensure they are relevant to the industry. This will enable IHLs to not only benchmark their infocomm students but also confirm that their ICM (information, communications & media) syllabuses meets industry requirements.
Proxor will measure the actual competency of IHL students via its Authentic Examinations with the aim to benefit the Singapore software development industry by providing them with an accurate methodology for talent identification and critical assets development.
Speaking on behalf of SiTF, an established industry association of tech companies, Wong Shee Min from the Manpower Capability team commented, “Competency based assessments like Proxor Authentic Examinations will allow companies to more effectively recruit, develop and manage its software developers. The partnership is very timely given SiTF’s business outlook survey findings for 2017, which revealed Singapore tech companies here are finding it difficult to find suitable candidates for their vacancies. This shortage can in turn affect their business efficacy in the long run.”
According to Henry Hon, CEO, Proxor, “There is a limited supply of software developers in the market as compared to the industry demand. Hence we are very pleased to be working together with SiTF to help them develop and grow the ecosystem of Singapore’s Government, private industry, educators, society and individuals for significant impact.”
SiTF & Proxor have previously collaborated on another venture in 2015 to launch the SiTF-Proxor Certified Examination Centre to help administer Proxor examinations for software developers to benchmark their capabilities against international standards.
Proxor - Authentic Examinationsᵀᴹ provides assessment ratings of software development skills, initially in Java and C, using technology and methodology developed in collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) and funded by a USD2.9Million grant from the government of Kenya under a loan from the World Bank. Created and designed by renowned Computer Science Professors at CMU, Proxor is the industry leader in the rating and certification of software developers. Proxor is headquartered in Hong Kong with an office in Singapore and the main development center will continue to be located in Pittsburgh near Carnegie Mellon University.
